The Kwanzaa Extravaganza Wine Dinner

7 COURSES / 7 WINES / 3 CITIES

Since 2016, Soul of Sonoma has created culturally inclusive spaces where guests can connect, learn, enjoy and make an impact by supporting Black winemakers. In 2023, Soul of Sonoma hosted two nights of Kwanzaa Extravaganza wine dinners, to bring community together around delicious cuisine inspired by the holiday’s traditional Karamu feasts. Wines curated from black vintners were expertly paired with each course to delight the palette. This year, Soul of Sonoma will host three Kwanzaa wine dinners in Los Angeles, Washington DC, and New York.

The Ultimate Holiday Dining Experience

During the holiday season and in the spirit of Kuumba (creativity in Swahili), Soul of Sonoma brings guests together in multiple cities, to enjoy seven-course wine dinners coined the Kwanzaa Extravaganza. The holiday’s name ties back to the Swahili phrase "matunda ya kwanza," meaning the first harvest. Soul of Sonoma teams up with event directors, celebrity chefs, and wine experts to design a bountiful feast or Karamu inspired by food from the African diaspora.

2024 KWANZAA EXTRAVAGANZA CITIES

The event chefs creatively riff of the customary Kwanzaa holiday dishes such as fried okra, plantains, fried chicken, black bean soup, baked ham and gumbo. The pairing menus explore how contrasting food and wine play off each other to add exciting nuances from the African diaspora and enhance the flavors on the palette. Seven wine selections are accompanied by wine education provided by an industry expert. Guests network and enjoy opulent tablescapes while participating in several exciting new and old Kwanzaa traditions throughout the evening.
